The problem

A cold pack is a grounded aircraft.

Lithium polymer packs lose usable capacity as they get cold, and charging a cold cell does lasting damage. In practice that means an aircraft that sat overnight either will not launch, launches with a fraction of its briefed endurance, or launches and quietly degrades the pack for the rest of its life.

The usual answers — keeping packs inside a vehicle, chemical warmers, swapping batteries every few minutes — put the problem on the operator instead of the hardware.

What it does.

Holds temperature to −60°F

Active self-heating brings the pack into its safe operating window and holds it there, rather than slowing the rate at which it gets cold.

Protects the pack, not just the flight

Prevents the cold-charge and cold-discharge conditions that permanently cost cycle life, so packs survive a season instead of a deployment.

Built to the airframe

Sized to the pack and the bay it lives in. Group 1 mass budgets are unforgiving, and a thermal solution that costs endurance has not solved anything.

No procedure to remember and nothing to time. The aircraft is either ready or it tells you it is not.
